This systemic approach recommends taking joint action on the various pillars of road safety (management, vehicles, infrastructure, users, post-accident) and avoiding siloed approaches. Because humans have physiological limitations in the event of a collision and limited cognitive abilities (propensity to make mistakes), road safety interventions must both prevent accidents from occurring and reduce their consequences for victims.
